Hello, I’m Shelley…
My interest in writing started a long time ago, way back in the early 2000s at The Writers Bureau. A pretty good place to start really, as they taught people how to be published writers. After a brief stint in customer services, they asked if I’d like to be the editor of their free online magazine, E-Zee Writer. I said ‘yes’, and my writing career began.
After a few months proving myself, I was promoted to copywriter and produced most of the copy, including print ads, brochures, training manuals and blogs, for the next 8 years.
Then I decided it was time to move and try out my skills against other copywriters out there. I also wanted to see if there were other subjects I could research and write about.
So, over the next five years, I worked my way up through the ranks of copywriting to become a content manager. This meant that, as well as being the senior copywriter, I also created blog schedules that integrated with the social media and PR teams. As this was a financial services role, the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) guidelines mattered, so I also became good at knowing what would and what would not be accepted by them.
Plain English is another interest of mine. I’ve helped implement the standards required by the Plain English Campaign on more than one occasion. In fact, that’s one of the things I do best, I enjoy turning complex legal, financial or technical text into a format that can be easily understood by many.
As well as writing for work, I’ve written for pleasure too. I indulged my interest in medicine and technology by being an industry expert for a B2B, peer reviewed publication, European Pharmaceutical Contractor Magazine. I wrote about things like the role of nanotechnology in the treatment of lung cancer and techniques for diagnosing CJD (mad cow disease).
Lately, I’ve noticed I have a knack for achieving Google Snippet status. Articles I wrote years ago achieve it too. So now that’s what I do, blogs I write will aim for Google Snippet Status. They are SEO gold, sitting at the top of the SERPs page in position #0 has huge benefits if you want to reach a wider audience online. The article I wrote below four years ago still sits at the top of Google’s 894,000,000 results.
You can see the articles that achieved, and still achieve Snippet status, here.
